Yellow Cab provides free transportation to Summerbridge students

Summerbridge is a free six-week program for approximately 40 middle school children from need-based socioeconomic backgrounds designed to help these students bridge the gap between academic years, while helping to alleviate brain drain over the summer. The students are in reading, writing and math classes every day. Another facet of the program is introducing the students to potential careers. The students submit their top three jobs that are interested in and the staff works with local business to afford the students the opportunity to shadow an employee.

On Tuesday July 14, the students will shadow at the following sites Barrett Dental Care on Shelbyville Road, Middletown Animal Hospital, All Pets Veterinary Center, Eclipse Bank, Louisville Executive Aviation, Children’s Orthopedics of Louisville, The Kentucky Science Center, The Clinical Translational Research Building; a functional area of The James Graham Brown Cancer Center, Judge Denise Clayton of the 4th Appellate District Court, Jewish Hospital, Judge Olu Stevens, and the Fire Department Headquarters. The students will be able to spend three hours at the sites and gain valuable knowledge about that specific profession.

Transportation to the majority of these sites and back to Sacred Heart Model Schools, where the program is being housed, is provided free of charge by Yellow Cab services. This day would not be possible without the continued support of the businesses and individuals who agree to take on the students and give up a few hours of their time, thank you all.
